PoignETS brings ÉTS students together to design and make watches, from the first sketch to the piece you wear on your wrist.

A watch packs what ÉTS teaches into a few centimetres: mechanical design, machining, materials, finishing and metrology, on an object where every hundredth of a millimetre shows.

Start from commercial movements, reliable and well documented, and put the engineering effort into what surrounds them: the case, the strap and the clasp.

A scientific and technological club where every project ends in a finished watch.

  1. [ 01 ]

    Choose and design

    Start from a commercial movement and design the watch around it.

    Compare movements on size, reliability and cost, then design the case, dial and strap fittings in CAD, with design reviews as a team.

  2. [ 02 ]

    Make

    Machine the case, stitch the strap, build the clasp.

    The workshop side: machining and finishing cases, leather straps, and clasps designed to go with them.

  3. [ 03 ]

    Assemble and measure

    Close the watch and check what was designed.

    Case the movement, fit the dial and hands, then test water resistance and timekeeping.

  • Because a watch is mechanical engineering in miniature: design, machining, materials, tolerances and metrology, brought together in a finished object. It is a concrete place to put the degree to work.

  • Not to start with. The club builds on commercial movements, reliable and well documented, and puts its work into what surrounds them: the case, the strap, the clasp, and the choice of the movement itself.
